OOPS! He Did It Again.

My Honey and I celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday, May 28th.

And, Yup, he did it again.  He bought me beautiful roses.  Only this time they were all

red-the color of love.  Aah!  My honey is getting romantic as he gets older.  I love it!

I read that flowers should be placed away from direct sunlight and natural air.  I was doing the exact opposite by placing flowers by an open window for all these years.  No wonder my fresh cut flowers died on me in 2-3 days.   Not these pretties.  They are on my entrance table, underneath the beautiful painting my little sister made for me several birthdays ago.  
Here's a close up of one of these beauties.  If you were wondering what I gave my honey for our anniversary, it was a delicious dinner with desert.  We watched the East coast basketball game to boot.  Speaking of....Go Lakers!  Stay home Nuggets.

Memorial Day

Over our Memorial Day vacation, the family split up for the first time.  Our 14 year old son went camping with my sister and her family to Sequoia National Park.  Here's a link should you ever want to camp there.  The link I provided show great rooms and lodging, but my kid did the real deal.  He stayed on a camp site where he slept in a tent, didn't shower, ate food prepared on an open fire and had no phone or video games to play.  

My daughter baby sat for us one night, so that my honey and I could go to a dinner party. She hung out with us most of the time, but she did visit with her neighborhood friends and went to the movies.  

The youngest had a sleep over with two of his cousins, drove his sister crazy and persuaded us to have a movie marathon night.  This turned out to be really fun.  We rented movies at Albertson's for super cheap and vegged in front of the T.V. until wee hours of the night.

Yesterday, we were all reunited when my son came home from camping.  Boy was he a bear:  grouchy, stinky and tired.  When he got home, he ate, did his homework, showered and fell into a deep sleep at about 8:30 pm.  Anyone that has a teenager, knows that's an early time to hit-the-hay voluntarily.  

It is so strange to be in this new season in life.  I was so used to the kids going with us everywhere and needing us to do anything and everything.  They are becoming more independent and it is very new for my honey and I.  We'll see how we adapt to this new season of parenthood.  

P.S.  My daughter has been begging to take her permit classes for months now, but I am not ready for such a big step.  Driving is next ya know.  I think I preferred changing diapers.  Any helpful comments or suggestions on this...I'm all ears.

Etsy Treasury

I just found out that yesterday evening, my beaded vase was featured on Etsy's Treasury.  It is a wonderful surprise and great honor to be one of the featured  items on the Treasury.  Here is the link to this particular treasury.  I just want to say thank you Vintage Starr Beads for featuring my vase as part of your treasury!  What a great experience and encouragement this has been.

Now, for those of you who do not know what an Etsy Treasury is, let me explain.  When anybody goes onto the Etsy home page you will see a  small collection of handpicked items featured on the front page.  These handpicked items are part of a theme.  This collection is called a "treasury".  Since it is on the home page, it is there for all to see.  In blue lettering to the right of the title "Handpicked items" Etsy provides the person who is featuring the items.  By clicking on the blue lettering, you have the opportunity to leave positive comments about any of the featured items.  

Although, I was having dinner when my vase was featured on the front page (thus missing it), it was featured non the less.  It gives me the giggles to know that my bead work was front and center on Etsy.  Hip, hip hooray!  

 

Clean Your Pipes!

My Honey is Finally Getting a Romantic Streak

I receive a knock at my door last Friday afternoon.  I reluctantly answer, hoping it wasn't another person trying to sell us new windows.  How do these people know we need new windows?  Is there some sort of window police?   Well, that's another story.  Anyhoo, I answer and a box of flowers is on my doorstep.  Thinking this was a mistake, I look for the deliver person to make sure a boo boo wasn't made.  Uh, no one in sight, so I bring them in and this beautiful arrangement WAS for meee.   My honey sent them early so I would have them on Mother's Day.  "Aaahh!  He is so romantic." I said to myself.  Wait, no he isn't, he's never done this before.  I call him and interrogate him as to what he did or what he purchased without my knowledge.  I'm thinking they are, "I'm sorry roses", although he's never done that either.  So,my honey simply tells me that I deserve them, and the chocolates.   "Chocolates!"  I exclaimed.  "Yeah, you were suppose to get chocolates with the Special."  He said sounding like he was ripped off.  Aah!  Now that's the frugal honey I know.   The chocolates were there, and tasty I might add.   It was all very romantic and a sweet surprise. 

To top it off, I also got a new hair cut and dye.  I think my recent surgery has softened him up a little.

Mother's Day Breakfast.

The entire second grade class at my son's school put together a Mother's Day Breakfast for us.  Each child made a watercolor place mate (laminated) for their mom. On top of the place mate was a handmade butterfly napkin ring (that didn't make it home), and this decorated folder.  The hour performance was super cute and sweet. After the performance we were told to open the folder that was tied together with a ribbon.  

My munchkin quickly pointed out that he drew the picture on the computer and wrote what was on the cover.  I never looked so good!  But...what was this thing?

A Stationary Set! of course.

head, complete with envelopes, pencil and munchkin 

made stickers. How genius!  

The problem now is that I don't want to use them up, 

but preserve them. I've never had a personalized stationary set with my munchkin's art all over it. I don't want to 

insult him either by not using it. What should I do?  

Well.... for now.... just admiring it :)

Dress for the Heat Wave

Southern Californians, remember when it was 100 degrees a 

few weeks ago after just having a few gorgeously comfortable 

days in the 70's? Well, that's the backdrop of this story.  

My daughter, did not have enough shorts to wear for the heat 

wave that we were expecting and requested we go shopping.  

Not being pay day yet, and on a strict budget, I offered a trip 

to our local fabric store armed with a 50% off coupon. I 

purchased some fabric, thread and ruffle so that I could make 

her a dress for the heat wave. This is what we came up with.  

Hope it inspires someone to use coupons and try their hand 

at making stuff to save $$ and meet your needs.
